Becoming a fully licensed real estate agent
A full real estate agent licence entitles you to own or manage a real estate agency.
It also provides you with the ability to sell real estate without the need to work through an established agency, such as if a Resident Unit Manager wanted to sell units in their unit complex themselves.
The Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000 requires that a person wishing to obtain a full real estate agent's licence complete 17 recognised units of competency under the Property Development and Management Training Package through a registered training organisation.
The REIQ delivers this training through the Fast Track Licensing course. More information is contained in the full course outline for this program.
Enrol in the REIQ Fast Track Licensing course and receive a free copy of the premier coaching and mentoring tool for Real Estate - The Mentors (valued at $495). This is a DVD series jam packed full of information, strategies and processes that award winning agents use from all over Australia.
Becoming a resident letting agent
Resident letting agents are 'on site' property managers/letting agents who manage residential lots in a Community Titles Scheme by owning or operating the management rights to that particular complex.
Resident letting agents act on behalf of the owners of the units in their letting pool and for the bodies corporate, usually in a caretaking capacity.
To act as a resident letting agent in Queensland, you must hold a resident letting agent's licence. The prescribed educational requirement for this licence category is the completion of the following six units, which are contained in the REIQ Resident Letting Agent's Licensing course:
- PRDRE10A Manage Agency Risk
- PRDRE18A Lease Property
- PRDRE19A Provide Property Management Services
- PRDRE28A Maintain Trust Account
- PRDRE37A Perform and Record Property Management Activities and Transactions
- PRDRE39A Prepare and Execute Documentation
The REIQ runs FREE Management Rights Information Sessions, giving attendees a comprehensive overview of the industry. The next evening session at the Gold Coast Training Centre runs on Monday 13 October 2008. Click here to view an outline of the session or call the REIQ Gold Coast Training Centre on 07 5527 1614 to reserve your place.
The REIQ Resident Letting Agent's Licensing course is specifically designed by industry practitioners to provide quality training and sound advice to anyone seeking to enter the industry in this capacity. More information is contained in the full course outline for this program and in the training calendar from September to December 2008.

Becoming a licensed property developer
Under the Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000, any developer who sells more than six residential properties in a 12-month period must hold a Property Developers Licence.
If the property development business is incorporated, at least one director must hold a Property Developer's licence. Unlike other licence categories, there are no educational pre-requisites for this category of licence and applicants can obtain the licence by meeting the 'suitable person' standards as set down by the Office of Fair Trading.
More information on the registration requirement for any salespeople employed by a licensed property developer is contained in this fact sheet.
