Redcliffe auctioneer named novice winner

Wednesday, 14 July 2010

A Redcliffe auctioneer has won the 2010 Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) novice auctioneer competition.

The competition was held in conjunction with the Institute's annual auction conference in Brisbane yesterday. Novice auctioneers from as far afield as Warwick and Toowoomba took part in the competition.

Competitors were required to 'auction' a hypothetical property and also demonstrate a thorough understanding of all the relevant legislation and the skills required to be a professional auctioneer.

"This year we had a great cross section of ages taking part in the competition with the calibre of budding auctioneers very promising indeed," REIQ managing director Dan Molloy said.

"These novices have never called an auction by themselves before so to do so in front of about 70 of their peers, including some of the best auctioneers in the country, was really a remarkable feat."

This year's winner was Robert Green from LJ Hooker Redcliffe with the judges commenting on his confident auction style

"Robert gave a very confident performance which showed he understood the auction process very well. His ability to handle the rapid bidding sequence also showed him to be an up and coming auctioneer."
