Profile for Alderley

Local Government Authority Brisbane
Location 6km north of Brisbane CBD
Features Grinstead Park, Alderley rail station
Commentary Only six kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, Alderley is a popular and well-established suburb.

The majority of housing is detached with many restored homes reflecting the age of the area.

The Alderley railway station and post office date back to 1899 and 1878 respectively and has remained the centre of Alderley for more than 100 years.

The demand for housing in the area has been strong and is likely to continue due to a combination of factors including: good public transport facilities (the railway station and regular suburban and city bus routes), the suburb's close proximity to the city, and its distinctively Queensland character.

Although Alderley is an older suburb, it is attracting young couples and families keen to renovate.

A limited supply of housing in the area has resulted in an increasing number of subdivisions.

Residents of Alderley enjoy access to a variety of retail shopping outlets including supermarkets and many convenience and take-away stores.

Major shopping centres Brookside and Stafford City are less than 10 minutes away, which also have cinemas and games arcades.

A number of large parks and preserved nature areas are scattered throughout the suburb with the recently improved Grinstead Park playground proving one of the most popular.

Scouts and Guides also meet at Grinstead Park.

Schools in neighbouring suburbs service the Alderley residents.
